Job seekers allowance is paid in weekly installments. If your 24 or younger the claim amount is up to £57.90 a week. For 25+ year olds the amount is up to £73.10. There are currently 3 different types of Job Seekers allowance with different eligibility conditions.

  • Under the state pension age (65)
  • You must not be in full time education
  • You will need to be able to prove you are able to work and are actively seeking it
  • Currently not full time employed
  • You can apply if you work less than 16 hours per week on average
  • You must be in good health with no disability’s that prevent you from working
  • Currently live in England, Scotland or wales
  • Have the right to work in the UK.

The maximum amount of time you can claim for is up to 6 months. After this your options will be discussed with your by your personal support coach.

Contribution Based “JSA”

Contribution based JSA follows all the conditions of the New Style “JSA”. You can only apply for this style if you get the “severe disability premium” or got this premium within the last month and are still eligible.

Income-based “JSA”

This category follows the rules of both contribution and new style but have the added rule of having less than £16,000 in savings.

Yes, you are able to disagree with the decision and put forward you case. Your disagreement application must be made within one month of your declined job seekers allowance claim. You can complain by phone, letter or by using the HMRC mandatory reconsideration application form online.
